Dear CMEA Section VI Music Educators, My name is Karen Garrett and I have recently been “promoted” from President-elect to President of Section VI of the California Music Educator’s Association. I live in Yreka, CA and have been teaching 4th-6th grade general music, 5th, 6th and junior band and choir since 1987. This year I have added a photography class to my teaching assignment. As I take over the duties of president, I am trying to get a better understanding of who our members are, where they teach and what they teach. I am also looking for our section’s music teachers who may not be members. I would appreciate any help you can give me in contacting those prospective members. I think the first step in making our association better is to improve the communication of its present and future members. Would you please take a moment to email me the following information: 1. Your name 2. Where you teach (please include address with county) 3. Your phone number(s) and email(s) 4. What you teach (subject and grade levels) 5. Your preferred method of communication (email, phone, mail) 6. Any names of music teachers you might know who are not on our membership roles 7. Do you know of any teachers who lost their jobs due to budget cuts? If you are reading this letter you already know of our website. Please take the time to forward the address to anyone who may not know of its existence. Thanks to Ryan Heimlich this website continues to improve and will become the major source of all the information you will need to keep up to date of the goings on in the region. It’s our hope that the website will become an interactive resource for our music teachers to use for collaboration as well as camaraderie. Thank you in advance for taking the time to help me build this database. My goal is to have your regional and state organization become more responsive to your questions and your needs. I hope this finds your school year off to a great start. Karen Garrett garrettkaren@sbcglobal.net 530-841-1953 home 530-340-2044 cell 530-842-3561 school |
